Default The REAL Eye of Argon

A new green paragon shield is available in NF which carries the name of Eye of Argon

I pointed this out in some now forgotten thread but I think its worthy of its own entry. Some might not know but you see the real Eye of Argon is something else. Something infamous. Something bizarre. Something that makes you socks detonate. The real Eye of Argon is a piece of 20th century literature written by now deceased Jim Theis and it is quite widely considered to be the worst fantasy novel ever written (fortunately in Edward D. Wood way rather than Uwe Boll way)

A comment and foreword from the site:
Quote:
"The Eye of Argon" was published in 1970 in OSFAN, the journal of the Ozark SF Society, issue number 10. Photocopies -- invariably with the last page missing -- circulated for decades, and it became a regular sf convention challenge to read Jim Theis's mangled prose with a straight face.
Personally I've been in severe danger of tearing my intestines while laughing so hard at how totally unbelieveable the story could be. But without further ado: Prepare to embrace your creators in the stygian haunts of hell, barbarian!

Enjoy.

Well that figures since the shield sucks big time.
Yeah it has nice skin... SO WHAT? It has NOTHING else going for it!
I wouldnt give more than 5k for it, since that's how much the Tanzit's Defender with the same stats costs.

I cant believe people charge 30k for it and more...

I never took a stand on the shield, its stats nor what I would consider a fair price. I merely mentioned such shield existed and that the name was just a little less known reference to popular culture and that people should be given the chance to experience this almost forgotten classic.

And uhh- Eye of Argon (the shield) is paragon one so it's not direct equivalent of Tanzit's defender so the prices cannot be fully compared in this manner.

Moreover: almost 50 views and only one bothers to comment. Shame on you.

Out of those 50 views it appeared only 1 person actually cared. lol Sorry but us OT'ers usually like to see something funny or something we can flame without getting in too much trouble. As interesting as this is it just didnt catch our eye, too much reading to do for our poor little minds. We thank you for your effort to educate us, but your efforts fall short as do all others. Most threads like this get 2 or 3 replies before they drift off into the dark abyss. The only reason i am replying is to boast your morale as i can see you are depressed that only one other person had responded after 50 views. Sometimes we just dont know what to say because all is said in the first post. This may be one of those times. We just dont know what to say other then, GG.

I'm amused... I must have that shield!

The Eye of Argon is a fading memory, alas... There are newer, more horrible documents, though truth be told, they're deliberate and lack the elegant honest sincerity of the original masterwork. With online gaming growing at such a rapid pace, the numbers of people avilable to sit and listen to those brave souls trying to read the Eye to an audience are diminishing.

I once read it all the way through, as a dramatic reading, and recieved a standing ovation, but was disqualified - apparantly, you're considered a professional presenter if you make it all the way through.
*shrug*
The audience's laughter was most gratifying.
